Christopher Brooks
Short biography
Christopher Brooks first visited the Black Rock Desert in the late '80s. His career in software afforded him plenty of opportunities to visit the desert, get a little work done, and get a little fun done. His first book about the region was published in 2003.
Longer biography
Christopher Brooks has been visiting the Black Rock Desert since the late 80s. His career in software afforded him plenty of opportunities to visit the desert, get a little work done, and get a little fun done. In 2013, he authored Black Rock Desert (Arcadia Publishing). Christopher spends his time helping people with home maintenance and restoring his '91 Toyota Pickup. He is active with Survival Research Laboratories, where he works on the electronic controls of large radio-controlled machines. Christopher spends his time with his wife, Tansy, in Sonoma County, the Black Rock Desert and at the family cabin in Northeastern Ontario.
Christina Preston
Christina Preston holds an M.Sc. in Community and Regional Development from UC Davis. As a community researcher, she has collaborated with various museums, cultural centers, and universities on public history projects. A self-proclaimed "desert rat," she prefers stark landscapes over populated areas and has frequented the Black Rock Desert for over twenty years.
